Meeting Metro Police Department came to our last meeting and talked about Identity Theft. Identity Theft is beginning to be a huge threat to all of us. We do so many things in our daily lives without knowing it could create major problems. Here are a few examples that the Police shared with us. · Use your credit card more than your ATM card. If identity thieves get the information on your ATM card, they have direct access to your accounts and there is not a lot of protection to stop them. If you use a credit card, the credit card company will help solve the problems. · Do not give your personal information out any more than you have to. · Many of the identity thieves are in other countries such as Nigeria. They obtain information from websites you visit, people who are paid to gather information, and special “gadgets” that record information and is sent to them. The Russian Mafia and other countries make a lot of money with techniques that hurt us and we do not realize they are happening. · Using Western Union is one of the ways that is used to gather your information and you need to be very careful when using it. The Police talked for over an hour, giving a great presentation. We plan to have them back in the future. We had a great turn out for this meeting and appreciate the Club Members who attended. The second part of our meeting was to introduce our new “WEBCAM CONTEST”. A small demonstration of what a webcam can do was given by Clyde and Linda Schubarth. All of the members of the Club are being asked to learn how webcams work and to make a small video. Here are the rules:
